The Director of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine, Oleksandr Tsyvinskyi, and his first deputy, Taras Shcherbai, met with the Legal Advisor of the Office of International Development, Cooperation and Training of Prosecutors (OPDAT) of the US Embassy in Ukraine, Peter Halpern, and the coordinator of the INL Justice program of the US Embassy in Ukraine, William Sieber.
During the conversation, Oleksandr Tsyvinskyi familiarized the partners with the ESBU's activities, approaches, and tools for overcoming the shadow economy, priority areas of development, and current challenges.
He emphasized that the ESBU focuses its efforts on countering the counterfeiting of excise goods, illegal gambling business, combating smuggling, and tax evasion. Separate areas of work include the protection of EU funds and international technical assistance, the exposure of violations of budget legislation, and the creation of favorable conditions for legal business in Ukraine.
The American partners proposed organizing training for ESBU employees on monitoring public procurement, investigating economic crimes, analyzing investment data, and personnel recruitment. They also discussed other opportunities for assistance in the implementation of personnel reform.
The parties agreed to continue the dialogue and expand cooperation in the identified areas.
