The Director of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine Oleksandr Tsyvinskyi held a meeting with Chrystia Freeland, Canada's Special Representative for the Reconstruction of Ukraine. The parties discussed areas for further cooperation and opportunities to deepen the partnership.
During the meeting, Oleksandr Tsyvinskyi informed the Canadian side about the key priorities of the ESBU's activities – de-shadowing the economy, countering schemes that cause damage to the state budget, and creating conditions for the protection of legal business and investments. The ESBU Director stressed that the Bureau is working to increase the transparency of economic processes, which is a necessary prerequisite for the country's reconstruction and the attraction of international capital.
The development of the ESBU's institutional capacity was also discussed, particularly in the field of international technical assistance. Oleksandr Tsyvinskyi noted that the support of partners allows the development of the Bureau's analytical and operational capabilities, the introduction of modern tools for fighting economic crimes, and the improvement of staff professionalism. Canadian support is particularly significant: since 2022, Canada has provided Ukraine with over 9 billion Canadian dollars to support resilience, recovery, and reforms.
Chrystia Freeland emphasized that Canada views economic security as an important element of Ukraine's reconstruction and is interested in developing cooperation with the ESBU. She supports reforms aimed at strengthening the institution responsible for the country's economic stability. She also stressed that transparency, good governance, and zero tolerance for corruption are the only path to sustainable economic growth in Ukraine.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants confirmed their readiness to continue the dialogue and develop a partnership aimed at restoring the Ukrainian economy, creating safe conditions for business, and countering criminal financial practices.
