The detectives of the Territorial Office of the ESBU in the Zakarpattia region completed the pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings on the fact of tax evasion. So far, UAH 4.1 million has already been reimbursed to the budget.
The investigation established that the bus driver, a resident of Zakarpattia, tried to transport more than 550 units of smartphones and tablets across the border with Slovakia.
The goods were hidden from customs control in various parts of the bus: under the panels, paneling in the bus cabin, in the fuel tank, floor, under the seats, in the driver's cabin, etc. In this way, the driver tried to avoid paying customs fees.
Based on the information of the detectives of the department for strategic protection of the economy of TO of the ESBU in the Zakarpattia region, customs officers conducted a detailed inspection of the vehicle and discovered undeclared equipment. The estimated value of the seized item is more than UAH 20 million. Damages caused to the state are estimated at UAH 4.1 million.
Thanks to the joint work of law enforcement officers, an attempt to illegally import a large batch of gadgets was stopped.
Currently, a citizen of Ukraine has been notified of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 1 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
During the pre-trial investigation, ESBU detectives secured full compensation for the damages caused to the state. The funds have already been paid to the budget, and the criminal proceedings have been sent to the court with a request to release the person from criminal liability.
The pre-trial investigation under Part 1 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine was carried out by detectives of TO of the ESBU in the Zakarpattia region. Operational support – SSU in the Zakarpattia region in cooperation with the smuggling unit of the Zakarpattia customs and border guards. Prosecutors of the Zakarpattia Regional Prosecutor's Office are in charge of the proceedings.
