Over 46 m³ of timber from wood of unknown origin was attempted to be exported to Moldova by the director of a woodworking enterprise and a local entrepreneur. To confirm the legality of the cargo's origin, the suspects used forged documents. They face up to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Detectives of the Territorial Office of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine in the Chernivtsi region completed the pretrial investigation and sent the indictment to the court.
The investigation established that in October 2025, the entrepreneur received unprocessed coniferous timber without documents confirming the legality of its origin and manufactured lumber from it.

To obtain an export certificate, he turned to the director of the woodworking enterprise. The latter provided documents on the purchase and origin of the timber, which actually related to a different batch of forest products.
On the basis of the documents with false information, the entrepreneur obtained a certificate, submitted a customs declaration, and organized the shipment of the lumber to Moldova.
During the inspection, employees of the Chernivtsi Customs and the SE "Forests of Ukraine" detected a mismatch in the characteristics of the timber. The illegal export was stopped before crossing the border.
The actions of the suspects have been qualified under Part 2 of Article 201-1 and Part 2 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal movement of timber materials and legalization of property obtained by criminal means).
The case was investigated under the procedural support of the Department of Strategic Investigations in the Chernivtsi region and the Department of the SSU of Ukraine in the Chernivtsi region.
We remind you that according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent until their guilt is proven in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict.
