Detectives of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine exposed yet another scheme of embezzlement of state funds.
Three enterprises one of which is state-owned participated in the installation. Its officials concluded an agreement with a private enterprise on the disposal of used containers for the storage of ethyl mercaptan (a gas additive).
For his services the contractor received UAH 9.58 million from the state-owned company. However, the detectives found that the amount of waste disposed of according to the documents did not correspond to what was originally stipulated in the contract and its annexes. Thus, the amount of work performed was overstated.
The detectives also discovered that part of the services under the mentioned contract was allegedly provided by a subcontractor - another private company. However, the law enforcement officers did not find any actual confirmation of the work done. That is the subcontractor received 4.8 million state funds for fictitious services.
It was also established that this company does not have a permit for handling hazardous waste which includes used odorant storage containers.
Currently, the investigation is ongoing, all the circumstances of the offense and the persons involved in it are being established.
We will remind that recently ESBU prevented the embezzlement of state gas by almost UAH 100 million.
