Detectives of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine informed the director of a private company of the suspicion of embezzlement of budget funds in the total amount of almost UAH 6 million which organized the supply of bulletproof vests of inadequate quality to one of the military units of the Zakarpattia region.

In May 2022, the director of one of the enterprises of the Kyiv region concluded a contract for the supply of 350 bulletproof vests. In accordance with the terms of the contract the manager organized the supply of protective equipment which according to the documents was supposed to correspond to the 4th class of protection.

However, according to the conclusion of the forensic economic examination conducted during the investigation, it was established that the mentioned bulletproof vests do not meet the requirements of the DSTU.

Pursuing a selfish motive, the director of the company neglected the safety of life and health of servicemen and supplied the military unit with low-quality body armor. As a result of criminal actions, the head of the enterprise took possession of budget funds allocated for ensuring national security and defense of Ukraine, in the total amount of UAH 5.9 million.

Based on the results of obtaining additional evidence, the head of the enterprise was notified of a new suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on the fact of legalization (laundering) of budget funds. Currently, the suspect has been placed under house arrest at night.

Pretrial investigation in criminal proceedings is carried out by detectives of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine under the operational support of the Security Service of Ukraine and the procedural guidance of prosecutors of the Prosecutor General's Office.
