Detectives of the Territorial Department of the Economic Security Bureau in the Chernivtsi region within the framework of a pre-trial investigation into the smuggling of cigarettes to Romania seized a tank with goods worth UAH 5 million. In particular, these are cardboard boxes with almost 65,000 packs of cigarettes without excise tax stamps.

Earlier, the law enforcement officers found a truck with cigarettes worth UAH 4.5 million, and a few days later at the customs checkpoint, they discovered another truck with goods worth UAH 12 million. The perpetrators tried to hide the third tank on the territory of a private enterprise in the Zakarpattia region.

The goods were hidden in a fuel tank. Trucks with cigarettes passed the customs checkpoint as empty and returned to Ukraine with fuel.

Currently, investigative actions are ongoing, and the full range of persons involved in illegal activities and the origin of counterfeit goods are being established.

The pre-trial investigation on the grounds of a criminal offense provided for in Part 2 of Art. 201-4, Part 1 of Art. 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is carried out by detectives of the Territorial Department of the ESBU in Chernivtsi region, operational support is provided by operatives of the 31st Border Squad and the SSU Directorate in Chernivtsi region and the procedural management is by the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office.
