Based on ESBU materials, a Bukovyna entrepreneur is to face trial for an illegal timber export scheme

 Detectives of the Territorial Office of the ESBU in the Chernivtsi region have completed a pre-trial investigation into an attempted illegal transfer of timber materials prohibited for export across Ukraine's customs border. The investigation established that the head of an exporting enterprise signed a contract with a Romanian company to supply firewood for domestic use to EU countries.

The transport of the cargo was planned by rail through the "Vadul-Siret" customs post of the Chernivtsi Customs.

However, during the customs inspection of the railcars, discrepancies were discovered in the supporting documents. A detailed inspection revealed that beneath a layer of firewood, coniferous and deciduous timber was hidden—the export of which is prohibited by Ukrainian law.

The total volume of the smuggled timber amounted to 33 cubic meters.

The director of the enterprise is charged with committing a criminal offense under Part 2 of Article 15 and Part 3 of Article 201-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (attempted illegal movement across the customs border of Ukraine of timber materials prohibited for export).

The indictment has been forwarded to the court.

In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court's guilty verdict.
