Detectives of the Territorial Office of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine in the Lviv region have shut down an underground confectionery production facility using a well-known international brand. The indictment against the organizer has been forwarded to the court.
The investigation established that the suspect, without being registered as an entrepreneur, set up the illegal production and packaging of wafers using trademarks unlawfully. The rightful owner of these brands is a Ukrainian confectionery factory that is part of a major international corporation. The production was organized in a warehouse located in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
To execute the criminal scheme, the individual purchased equipment and packaging materials and recruited other individuals who, unaware of the illegality of the activities, performed the packaging of the products. The finished goods were stored for the purpose of further distribution.
During the searches, detectives seized packaging equipment, packing materials, and over 38,000 units of finished products with illegally applied trademarks. As a result of these unlawful actions, the rights holder suffered material damage exceeding UAH 550,000.
The actions of the accused are classified under Part 2 of Article 15 and Part 2 of Article 229 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (completed attempt to illegally use signs for goods and services, company names, or qualified indications of origin, causing material damage on a large scale).
The pre-trial investigation is complete, and the indictment has been sent to court. Procedural oversight was provided by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office. Operational support was provided by the Cyber Police Department (UPK) in the Lviv region of the National Police of Ukraine.
