Detectives of the Territorial Office of the ESBU in the Volyn region have completed a pre-trial investigation regarding a local entrepreneur who organized the illegal export of timber to the Republic of Poland. The indictment has been sent to court.
According to the investigation, the wood was purchased for cash from individuals and sole proprietors. Subsequently, it was shipped from the Kamin-Kashyrskyi and Kovel districts of the Volyn region and prepared for export.
For customs clearance, documents containing false information were submitted. This specifically concerns certificates of origin, waybills, and invoices.
During searches at the Yahodyn checkpoint and at the suspects' residences, detectives seized financial and business documents, rough notes, electronic storage media, seals, lumber, a tractor unit, and a semi-trailer. Additionally, over 43 cubic meters of timber, valued at approximately 7,000 euros, were seized.
The entrepreneur has been notified of suspicion under Part 1, Article 201-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—smuggling of timber prohibited from export outside the customs territory of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation is completed. The indictment has been sent to court.
Operational support is provided by the employees of the SSU Office in the Volyn region. Procedural guidance is carried out by prosecutors of the Volyn Regional Prosecutor's Office.
In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven through a legal process and established by a court verdict.
