The local budget incurred a loss of over UAH 4.8 million due to the procurement of an overpriced CT scanner for a medical facility in the Transcarpathian region. Detectives of the Territorial Department of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine in the Zakarpattia region have notified two officials of a communal enterprise suspected of involvement in the implementation of an illegal scheme.
The investigation established that during the public procurement of the computer tomograph, the officials of the medical facility ensured the acquisition of the equipment and its additional components at an inflated cost.
According to the results of the forensic examinations, it was established that the illegal actions of the suspects caused over UAH 4.8 million in damages to the local budget.
As part of the pretrial investigation, ESBU detectives conducted authorized searches, during which they seized documentation and other materials confirming the circumstances of the criminal offense.
Based on the collected evidence, two officials were notified of suspicion under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Law of Ukraine (appropriation of another's property through abuse of official position, committed on an especially large scale).
The pretrial investigation is ongoing. All circumstances of the offense and other persons involved in the implementation of the illegal scheme are being established. Operational support was provided by the officers of the Security Service of Ukraine Department in the Zakarpattia region and the Strategic Investigations Department in the Zakarpattia region of the Strategic Investigations Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
Procedural oversight is exercised by the Zakarpattia Regional Prosecutor's Office.
