Based on materials provided by detectives from the Territorial Office of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine in the Odesa region, the court found a 44-year-old native of Turkey guilty of organizing the illegal production of clothing under the guise of well-known global brands on an industrial scale. The suspect was fined.
Detectives established that the foreigner had organized a workshop in Ukraine where well-known names and logos of global brands were sewn and applied to clothing without the appropriate permits.
The defendants counterfeited trademarks of more than 10 well-known clothing brands, causing material damage to the rights holders on a particularly large scale.
The goods were sold retail and wholesale online and at markets throughout Ukraine.
During the searches, the employees of the ESBU seized industrial equipment for the production of clothing and the application of logos, in particular, a line for applying colored logos using clichés, a dryer and a heat press, an industrial knife for fabric, and a sewing machine with a control monitor.
They also seized clothing with logos of world-famous brands, fabric in rolls, threads, thermal patches for clothing with accessories, sheets with logo samples, cliché frames for machines, clothing patterns, documents, rough notes, etc.
The estimated value of the seized products and equipment used in illegal activities is almost UAH 1.8 million.
Based on the evidence gathered, the court found the suspect guilty of committing a criminal offense under Part 1 of Article 229 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal use of trademarks for goods and services, trade names) and imposed a fine.
The proceedings are being conducted by prosecutors from the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office.
