Detectives of the Territorial Department of the Economic Security Bureau in Chernivtsi region referred to the court a criminal proceeding regarding the purchase, storage and attempted transportation of over 23,000 liters of alcohol across the state border of Ukraine. The court issued a verdict and imposed a fine of UAH 136,000 on the accused. Seized counterfeit products will be destroyed.

During the pre-trial investigation the detectives established that an official of the enterprise which was engaged in the production of chemicals for cars, organized an illegal alcohol export scheme. The woman planned to ship it for sale in Bulgaria.

In order to hide the illegally purchased alcohol from customs control it was packaged in 5-liter bottles and presented as "winter windshield washer fluid" which was allegedly produced by the factory where the suspect worked.

During an attempt to cross the Ukrainian border detectives of the ESBU discovered and seized products with an estimated value of UAH 3 million.

The pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings on the grounds of a criminal offense provided for in Part 1 of Art. 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal manufacture, storage, sale or transportation for the purpose of sale of excise goods) was carried out by detectives of the Territorial Department of the ESBU in Chernivtsi region under the operational support of the 31st Chernivtsi Border Squad and Chernivtsi Customs. Prosecutors of the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office are in charge of the proceedings.
