Detectives of the Territorial Department of the ESBU in the Volyn region have completed a pre-trial investigation of a citizen of Ukraine under Part 1 of Art. 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal acquisition for the purpose of sale or storage for this purpose, transportation for the purpose of sale of illegally manufactured excise goods).

The investigation established that the native of the Volyn region was not registered as a business entity and did not have an appropriate license for business activity. However the man purchased tobacco products without Ukrainian excise tax stamps through the Internet in order to sell them.

When he tried to send illegally manufactured cigarettes by mail the employees of the ESBU conducted an inspection of the scene and found 4,000 packs of counterfeit cigarettes with well-known brands. The estimated value of the seized item is more than a quarter of a million hryvnias.

At present the person involved in the criminal proceedings has been notified of the suspicion. The indictment was sent to the court. Procedural management is carried out by prosecutors of the Volyn Regional Prosecutor's Office.
