Detectives from the Territorial Office of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine, ESBU, in Kyiv, uncovered an extensive scheme for the illegal production and sale of counterfeit fuel. The scheme encompassed the entire process—from the illicit manufacturing of fuel to its sale at gas stations.
The investigation established four gas filling stations where the illegally manufactured fuel was sold. A specialized transport vehicle that delivered the product directly from the place of illegal production to these gas stations was also identified.
Currently, ESBU detectives have completed the pre-trial investigation into the activities of the individuals involved in operating the aforementioned filling stations. Indictment acts against the officials who engaged in the transportation and sale of the counterfeit fuel have been sent to court.
Furthermore, during the investigation, ESBU detectives discovered an oil depot where fuel was illegally manufactured by mixing petroleum products with various liquids. From there, special vehicles delivered the counterfeit product to the network of gas stations.
During searches at all facilities involved in the scheme, approximately 114 tons of illegally manufactured fuel and 168 tons of liquid used for its production were seized.
The pre-trial investigation into the activities of the illegal oil depot is ongoing.
Procedural guidance is being carried out by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
