ESBU issues a new suspicion to a former official for laundering an additional UAH 1.3 million

 Detectives from the Territorial Office of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine in the Chernivtsi region have served a notice of suspicion to a former employee of a local joint-stock company for the legalization of proceeds obtained through criminal means.

In cooperation with the security departments of LLC "Gas Distribution Networks of Ukraine" and NJSC "Naftogaz of Ukraine," detectives established new facts regarding the former official's illegal activities. Previously, a scheme involving the misappropriation and laundering of UAH 5.9 million between 2022 and 2024 had already been uncovered. However, during the investigation, it was revealed that the individual had been operating for a longer period. It has now been established that between 2017 and 2021, he laundered an additional UAH 1.3 million obtained through criminal activities.

While serving as the head of the payroll group, the man systematically entered false data into payment documents, artificially inflating the amounts of accruals and transferring the resulting difference to his own bank account. To conceal the origin of the funds, the official withdrew them in cash and spent them on personal needs, including various purchases, entertainment, and gambling.

The individual has been notified of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 1 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (legalization of property obtained by crime).

Currently, the pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings is ongoing.
