Detectives of the Territorial Department of the ESBU in Volyn region in cooperation with the Lutsk District Police Department of the National Security Service of Ukraine in Volyn Region exposed a resident of Dnipro who was paying with fake bills in commercial establishments in the city of Lutsk.

The investigation established that a citizen of Ukraine purchased counterfeit national currency of Ukraine in the city of Dnipro in February 2023. The man brought fake bills to Lutsk and immediately started selling them. In order to hide the crime the money was sold in various trading places. Each time an inexpensive product was purchased which was paid for with a counterfeit UAH 1,000 bill. In this way the person converted counterfeit funds into real UAH.

The detected UAH 1,000 banknotes had the same series and numbers and did not correspond to the established model of a similar banknote of the National Bank of Ukraine. Banknotes were printed using a color sign printing device with an inkjet printing method and had counterfeit special security element.

The person has been notified of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 1 of Art. 199, Part 2 of Art. 199 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (production, storage, acquisition, transportation, forwarding, import into Ukraine for the purpose of use in the sale of goods, sale or sale of counterfeit money, state securities existing in paper form, state lottery tickets, excise tax stamps or holographic security elements).The criminal proceedings were sent to the court with an indictment.

The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was carried out by the detectives of the Territorial Department of the ESBU in the Volyn region under the procedural guidance of the prosecutors of the Volyn regional prosecutor's office.

Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
