Detectives of the Territorial Office of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine in the Lviv region served a notice of suspicion to an individual entrepreneur for attempted smuggling of timber.
The investigation established that a resident of the Lviv region, registered as an individual entrepreneur (sole proprietor), organized the illegal export of oak timber to European Union countries. Using documents containing false information, the suspect obtained certificates of origin for the timber and manufactured sawn timber.
During searches, detectives of the ESBU seized 22.6 m³ of wood, which had already passed customs clearance procedures and was intended for illegal export to EU countries. Its declared value is over UAH 500 thousand.

The pre-trial investigation under Part 1 of the Art. 201-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (smuggling of timber and valuable wood species) is ongoing. Other episodes of the entrepreneur's illegal activities are being established.
Operational support was provided by employees of the Department of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region and the Strategic Investigations Department in the Lviv region of the National Police of Ukraine.
Procedural guidance is being carried out by prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
