Detectives of the ESBU of the Territorial Office in the Lviv region have exposed an organized group selling counterfeit batteries under the guise of a well-known international brand.
The investigation established that between 2023 and 2025, the suspects stored and sold counterfeit products across the Kyiv and Lviv regions. To facilitate their scheme, they illegally used a registered trademark.
The products were sold at below-market prices, misleading consumers. As a result of this illegal activity, the trademark owner suffered material damages totaling approximately UAH 1.6 million.
ESBU detectives have officially notified the organizer and two accomplices of suspicion. Their actions are classified under Part 3 of Article 27 and Part 3 of Article 229 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal use of trademarks for goods and services, committed by an organized group).
During power outages, batteries often become the sole power source for essential devices. Counterfeit products fail to provide reliability, which is why the ESBU systematically combats the illicit trade of such goods.
The pretrial investigation is ongoing. Procedural supervision is provided by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, with operational support from the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
