Countering economic crime and asset recovery are at the focus of the international dialogue of the ESBU

 Asset recovery, countering money laundering, and expanding interaction with international partners became the main topics of the meeting between the First Deputy Director of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine, Taras Shcherbai, and the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to International Organizations in Vienna, Yurii Vitrenko.

The meeting took place within the framework of the working visit of Taras Shcherbai to Vienna. The First Deputy Director of the ESBU took part in a series of events of the Global Forum on Asset Recovery dedicated to practical approaches to asset recovery and achieving concrete results in this area.

During the dialogue, the sides discussed international cooperation in countering economic crime and asset recovery, as well as prospects for further interaction of the Bureau with international organizations and partners.

Special attention was paid to the development of cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Taras Shcherbai expressed interest in establishing practical interaction in the area of asset recovery and countering money laundering. Among other areas are the exchange of experience, increasing the professional training of employees, and the development of the analytical capabilities of the ESBU.

Also, the meeting participants discussed the role of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to International Organizations in Vienna in expanding the Bureau's international contacts. The discussion focused on facilitating the establishment of links with relevant institutions and coordinating further interaction with international partners.

It was agreed to actively involve the Bureau in international events aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and to jointly form a position on Ukraine's interests in ensuring economic security.

In turn, the UN Representation expressed its readiness, within its competence, to provide expert support and assistance to the Bureau in matters of international interaction.
