Based on the materials of the detectives of the Territorial Office of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine in the Odesa region, a court has issued a verdict against a man who attempted to influence an investigation by offering a bribe. The defendant was sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment with a 1-year probation period.

During the investigation into a criminal case involving the illegal organization of gambling, the suspect attempted to influence the proceedings. The man offered an ESBU employee a bribe of USD 10,000.

Specifically, the offer aimed to cancel the notice of suspicion for one participant in the proceedings and change the legal classification of the actions of another. The act of offering the bribe was documented in accordance with the law.

Based on the evidence gathered, the man was notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—offering an improper advantage to an official holding a responsible position.

The court found him guilty and sentenced him to 4 years of imprisonment without confiscation of property, with a release from serving the sentence under a 1-year probation period.

This fact serves as another confirmation that the systematic fight of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine against the illegal gambling market is exerting real pressure on shadow businesses.

Over the last year alone, the ESBU in Odesa shut down 66 illegal gambling halls and seized 21 gambling premises, while owners of 17 properties terminated their lease agreements, making it impossible for the illegal business to continue operations.

The Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine emphasizes: no attempts at bribery or pressure on detectives will change the fundamental position of the service. Every such instance will have legal consequences, and the fight against shadow markets will continue until they are completely eliminated.
