The ESBU in Volyn has secured the recovery of nearly UAH 5 million in VAT in a case involving road repairs

 Nearly UAH 5 million in VAT failed to reach the budget due to the actions of a construction company director in Volyn. Detectives from the Territorial Administration of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine in the Volyn region have secured full restitution for the damages caused.

The tax evasion risks within the company's operations were uncovered by the analysts of the Territorial Office. Based on these materials, detectives initiated criminal proceedings.

According to the investigation, the director of the company, whose primary activity is the construction of residential and non-residential buildings, understated VAT liabilities while providing routine road repair services. As a result, approximately UAH 5 million in value-added tax was withheld from the budget.

The director was notified of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional tax evasion leading to the actual non-receipt of funds by the budget in significant amounts). The criminal case has been forwarded to court.

During the pre-trial investigation, the company fully compensated the state for the damages caused, totaling nearly UAH 5 million, and additionally allocated half a million hryvnias to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Oversight of the legal proceedings was carried out by prosecutors of the Volyn Regional Prosecutor's Office.

It should be noted that, according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in accordance with the law and established by a court's verdict of guilty.
