International Experience to Protect the Economy: ESBU Strengthens Partnership with Japan

 The leadership of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine (ESBU) held a meeting with representatives of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine to discuss cooperation in combating economic crime, strengthening the ESBU's institutional capacity, and enhancing bilateral cooperation.

The Japanese delegation was led by H.E. Mr. Masashi Nakagome, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine, accompanied by Ms. Akbar Tasmin, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan.

The ESBU was represented by Director Oleksandr Tsyvinskyi, First Deputy Director Taras Shcherbai, and Yuliia Popadiuk, Acting Head of the Department for European Integration, International Cooperation, Strategic Partnership and Data Exchange.

During the meeting, ESBU representatives presented the ESBU’s mandate, key priorities, and core areas of activity. Particular attention was paid to the ESBU's intelligence-led approach, the identification of systemic risks to Ukraine's economy, and efforts to combat economic crimes that cause significant losses to the state budget.

The parties also discussed practical cooperation between the ESBU and the competent authorities of Japan, exchanging professional expertise, implementing joint projects, organizing capacity-building activities, and attracting international technical assistance to further strengthen the Bureau's institutional capabilities.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to developing bilateral cooperation and agreed to continue their dialogue on joint initiatives aimed at enhancing Ukraine's economic security.
