Director of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine Oleksandr Tsyvinskyi took part in a meeting with EU Commissioner Marta Kos and Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs Mari Bjerre held in Kyiv. The event was also attended by Director of the NABU Semen Kryvonos and Head of the SAPO Oleksandr Klymenko.
“Ukraine’s path to the European Union is based on a strong rule of law. A strong Ukraine requires strong and independent anti-corruption institutions. They are the foundation of any democracy that works for the benefit of its citizens,” noted Marta Kos.
The parties discussed support for the independence of anti-corruption institutions, their role in strengthening the rule of law, and Ukraine’s progress on the path to European integration.
“Ukraine has come a long way under the most difficult circumstances. If you want to become a member of the European Union, there is no other path but reforms. The rule of law and the fight against corruption are among the most important pillars of a democratic society,” emphasised Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs Mari Bjerre.
The meeting also addressed the effective fight against the shadow economy and the continuation of ESBU reform as part of Ukraine’s broader commitments within the EU accession process.
“The independence and institutional capacity are the key to Ukraine’s movement along the European path. Countering economic crime and corruption is the foundation of trust for society and international partners,” stated Director of the ESBU Oleksandr Tsyvinskyi.
