Illegal diesel sales in Prykarpattia: ESBU refers case to court

 Detectives of the Territorial Office of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine in the Zakarpattia region have completed a pretrial investigation into a resident of the Ivano-Frankivsk region. The indictment has been officially forwarded to the court.

The investigation established that in early January 2026, the individual illegally acquired approximately 10,000 liters of counterfeit diesel fuel lacking any documentation regarding its origin or quality. The fuel was stored at a gas station in the town of Dolyna and sold to customers without proper retail licenses, fiscal receipts, or official accounting logs.

During the search, law enforcement officers seized 8,337 liters of the diesel fuel along with cash proceeds generated from its sale. Subsequent forensic analysis confirmed that the seized fuel failed to meet national quality standards.

The indictment against the individual has been officially forwarded to the court. He faces charges for the illegal acquisition, storage with the intent to sell, and distribution of illegally manufactured fuel under Part 1 of Article 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor's Office provided procedural guidance in the case.

This is not the only instance of illegal fuel circulation in Prykarpattia documented by detectives from the Territorial Office of the ESBU in the Zakarpattia region in 2026 under the procedural guidance of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.

In three other criminal proceedings concerning the illicit circulation of fuel at gas stations in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, the indictments have already been sent to court, and two have resulted in guilty verdicts.

The convicted individuals have been sentenced, and both the illegally manufactured fuel and the funds obtained from its sale have been confiscated. A portion of the seized fuel has been transferred to meet the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of a criminal offense and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt has been proven in accordance with the law and established by a court's guilty verdict.
