For reference: The NATO Representation to Ukraine was established in 2016 following a presidential decree. The Mission combines two existing NATO organizations in Ukraine: The NATO information and documentation center (1997) and the NATO Liaison office (1999). The organization's objectives are to facilitate practical cooperation within the framework of the NATO-Ukraine Commission and to expand cooperation between NATO and the Ukrainian authorities.
In October 2022, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed Ukraine's application to join NATO.
