A detectives of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine reported the suspicion to the director of the company, which supplied bulletproof vests of inadequate quality to the military. He faces up to 12 years in prison.
The limited liability company concluded an agreement with the regional territorial center of equipment and social support for the purchase of ammunition, in particular, bulletproof vests of the 4th class of protection. They were supplied and handed over to the military unit, but it turned out that the protective equipment did not meet the stated characteristics.
A detectives of the ESBU seized 340 bulletproof vests, and a forensic examination established that their technical properties do not meet the requirements of class 4 protection in accordance with the requirements of DSTU 8782:2018. When firing with 7.62x54 mm cartridges, with an LPS bullet (57-Н-323с), with a bullet mass of 9.6 g, it is possible to penetrate the products submitted for research.
The director of the supplier company was notified of the suspicion of committing a crime, provided for in Part 5 of Article 191 (appropriation, embezzlement of property or possession of it by abuse of official position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Such actions are punishable by imprisonment for a term of seven to twelve years. The amount of damage to the state is estimated at almost UAH 6.5 million.
Pretrial investigation in criminal proceedings is carried out by detectives of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine under the procedural guidance of prosecutors of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
