Detectives of the Territorial Office of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine in the Chernivtsi region have uncovered a scheme for the supply and sale of counterfeit tobacco products. Goods worth over 30 million UAH were seized.
According to the investigation, the illegal activity was organized by a local resident who involved relatives and acquaintances in the operation. The counterfeit products were sold through retail outlets and markets, as well as shipped by mail to other regions of the country.

To store batches of cigarettes, the perpetrator used his place of residence, where he set up several warehouse spaces and camouflaged storage facilities. The man carefully concealed the entrance to these hiding spots. During authorized searches, ESBU detectives discovered these hideouts.
A total of 425 cases containing over 212,000 packs of counterfeit cigarettes of various well-known brands were seized. The estimated market value of the seized products exceeds 30 million UAH.
Additionally, during the investigative actions, detectives seized 140 liters of liquid with a characteristic smell of alcohol.

The suspect has been formally notified of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal storage and sale of excisable goods). The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
Operational support was provided by officers of the 31st Border Guard Detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine Office in the Chernivtsi region. The Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office is providing procedural guidance.
