ESBU is developing cooperation with the DG REFORM of the European Commission

Ways and opportunities to join existing EU technical assistance projects and programs by the ESBU employees to acquire skills and necessary competencies, as well as gain experience in monitoring of the international technical assistance use – were the main topics discussed during an online meeting with representatives of the Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support of the European Commission (DG REFORM).

The Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support (DG REFORM) helps EU member states to develop and implement reforms as part of their efforts to support job creation and sustainable development of the countries.

At the beginning of the meeting the Head of the ESBU International Cooperation Division Anatoliy Aleksandrov informed about the main violations in the economic sphere related to the ESBU’s jurisdiction; the importance of the analytical component in the ESBU’s activities; the strengthening of the preventive function and the priority areas of possible cooperation.

The European Commission representatives Mr. Ioannis Hadjiyiannis, Head of Unit "Horizontal Policies" and Head of Athens Office of the DG REFORM, Mr. Vincenzo Baccaro, Legal Adviser of the DG REFORM and Ms. Georgina Georgiou, Policy Specialist of the Unit "Horizontal Policies" of the DG REFORM together with the ESBU representatives formed the agenda for future cooperation.

According to the results of the meeting, it was agreed on the participation of the ESBU employees in the current EU programs and projects, launched for Ukraine's neighboring countries, that can be used to support the development of the ESBU institutional capacity and the development of the analytical component. Also, DG REFORM agreed to provide expert support and consulting in methodology and practical recommendations in approximation of the ESBU activities to EU practices and standards. The next meeting participants planned to hold in January 2023.

Reminder: Earlier, the representatives of the European Commission subdivisions and the ESBU held negotiations, as a result of which they agreed on cooperation to involve all possible support from international partners.
