ESBU and OECD Discussed Joint Steps to De-Shadow the Economy and Protect Financial Resources

 Deputy Director of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine, Yurii Bielousov, held a working meeting with the leadership of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Liaison Office in Ukraine, Michal Falenczyk, Head of the OECD Ukraine Liaison Office, and Marta Sydoryak, Deputy Head of the Office, to discuss economic de-shadowing and the protection of state and international financial resources.

During the meeting, Yurii Bielousov outlined the key priorities of the ESBU’s activities, including de-shadowing the economy, protecting European Union funds and international technical assistance, countering smuggling, and monitoring the effective use of budget resources. Special attention was paid to the renewal of personnel policy and the preparation of the Bureau’s new strategy.

It was also noted that the ESBU is strengthening cooperation with competent authorities of other countries to counter cross-border crime and is actively engaging international partners in institutional development, particularly through the implementation of training programmes for its employees.

For his part, Michal Falenczyk provided information on the OECD’s activities in Ukraine and the implementation of the OECD Country Programme for Ukraine. In this context, the parties discussed potential areas of cooperation in ensuring tax compliance as a component of economic de-shadowing, as well as involving international experts in the development of Ukraine’s economic security strategy.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to maintain ongoing communication and further develop cooperation in the identified areas.
