Embezzlement of UAH 6 million during power line reconstruction: ESBU sends case against two company executives to the court

 Detectives of the Territorial Office of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine (ESBU) in the Lviv region have referred an indictment to court against two executives of private enterprises caught embezzling budget funds on an especially large scale. The scheme was carried out during the reconstruction of power lines.

The investigation established that as part of an international project to reconstruct power lines for a nuclear power plant, companies from the energy and logistics sectors were contracted. The project was implemented in accordance with a memorandum between Ukraine and an EU member state.

The heads of these enterprises unjustifiably inflated the cost of the work performed. To achieve this, they entered knowingly false information into the service acceptance certificates. Specifically, they included costs for the international transportation of transformers that never actually took place.

The defendants' actions have been qualified under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (misappropriation of property through abuse of official position on an especially large scale) and Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (official forgery, i.e., entering knowingly false information into official documents). The indictment has been referred to the court.
