Detectives of the Territorial Department of the Economic Security Bureau in Odesa region sent to court a case concerning the activities of an underground alcoholic beverage production facility in Izmail.

The production was organised by a 60-year-old local resident. The man mixed alcohol with dyes and food additives. He sold the illegally produced alcohol on the Internet.

Law enforcement officers conducted searches at the place of production in the offender's household. They seized over 26.5 thousand litres of alcoholic beverages, food additives and dyes, 19 containers with a volume of 1 to 6 thousand litres, delivery notes, draft records and cash in foreign currency. The estimated value of the seized property is over UAH 9 million.

Currently, all the property has been seized and the offender has been served a notice of suspicion.

The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was conducted by detectives of the Territorial Department of the ESBU in Odesa region. Operational support was provided by the representatives of the Southern regional directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and the Odesa Region Prosecutor's Office provided procedural supervision.

The indictment for committing a criminal offence stipulated by Part 1, 2 Art. 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal manufacture, storage, sale or transportation for sale of excisable goods) was submitted to the court.

The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to five years with confiscation and destruction of illegally produced or purchased goods, tools, and raw materials for their manufacture.
