The leadership of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine and experts from more than 10 countries discussed Ukraine's integration into the EU economic security system. The purpose of the meeting was to adopt EU practices to ensure the protection of financial interests of Ukraine and foreign donors. European law enforcement agencies presented their own training platforms aimed at improving the skills of detectives and analysts the ability to use cyber technologies to identify and trace illicit assets. The participants agreed to form a list of priority training topics and to introduce training on a regular basis.
Acting Director of the ESBU Eduard Fedorov told the representatives of diplomatic missions and foreign law enforcement agencies about the priorities of the Bureau's activities the strategy of institutional development, challenges and goals in the field of international cooperation.
"Ukraine's comprehensive integration into the European economic security system is a matter of urgency. Among other things the ESBU is responsible for investigating crimes related to the illegal use of European Union funds. We understand our responsibility in protecting the financial interests of Ukraine and its international partners. We consider cooperation with foreign colleagues in investigating economic crimes, data exchange and study of international programs to be one of our most important tasks today," Eduard Fedorov emphasized.
The meeting presented the results of the ESBU work in the field of financial investigations, as well as the challenges and needs that arise at this stage.
"In the future the Economic Security Bureau will play a significant role in the security scenario of Ukraine and Europe. Joint efforts aimed at early detection of illegal economic activity will help minimize the loss of budgetary financial resources. We support our Ukrainian colleagues and look forward to progress in engaging the ESBU in cooperation with EU law enforcement agencies," Senior employee of the EU Consultative mission in Ukraine Andriy Baran emphasized.
The international roundtable "Strengthening the capacity of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine in the field of protection of state financial interests and international cooperation" was organized within the framework of cooperation between the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine and the United Nations office on drugs and crime. The event was attended by the heads of the central office and Territorial Departments of the ESBU, representatives of the European Union advisory mission Ukraine (EUAM), the European Union border assistance mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) experts from the UK, France, Italy, Czech Republic, Poland, Finland, Latvia and Sweden.
