A municipal motor transport enterprise operating in the waste management sector has reimbursed over 13.7 million UAH in unpaid taxes to the state budget.
Detectives of the Territorial Office of the ESBU in the Kyiv region established that the company's officials had intentionally evaded paying environmental taxes for years.
The investigation revealed that the enterprise significantly underpaid fees during waste disposal operations at the city landfill. Since the dumpsite is located near the city, the law requires environmental taxes to be paid at an elevated rate. The officials ignored this requirement and reported their figures using minimal rates. As a result, millions of hryvnias remained in the shadow economy instead of filling the community budget.
The pre-trial investigation was initiated on the basis of an analytical product compiled by specialists of the Territorial Office of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine in the Kyiv Region. The amount of damages caused to the state, totaling over UAH 13.7 million, was confirmed by the conclusion of a forensic economic examination.
The head of the company was notified of suspicion of committing a criminal offense stipulated by Part 3 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (evasion of taxes, fees (mandatory payments)).
Currently, the funds have already been paid into the budget, and the criminal proceedings against the suspect have been referred to the court with a motion to exempt the individual from criminal liability.
Operational support was provided by employees of the Department for Support of Activities Related to Hazardous Materials of the National Police of Ukraine. Procedural guidance was provided by prosecutors of the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
