Analysts of the Territorial Department Economic Security Bureau in Odesa region prevented an unjustified refund of value added tax in the amount of UAH 8.5 million.

In the course of analytical activities ESBU identified a business entity that applied for a refund of UAH 11.6 million of value added tax. The company specializes in processing sunflower seeds and exporting sunflower oil under foreign economic contracts. This business entity is one of the largest in the south of Odesa region. To prevent the embezzlement of public funds, analysts of the Territorial Department of the Economic Security Bureau in Odesa region sent a letter of recommendation on the identified risks and the need for control and verification measures to the State Tax Service of Ukraine.

Based on the results of the control and verification measures, taking into account the clarifying calculations provided, the company reduced the amount of budgetary reimbursement to UAH 3.1 million. Thus UAH 8.5 million of budget funds were saved.

"The management of the ESBU is particularly focused on detecting VAT fraud. It is thanks to the analytical component that we work to prevent such manifestations in the economy. Earlier, our department's analysts prevented the embezzlement of more than UAH 63.7 million of budget funds. We continue to work in this direction," said Serhiy Muntyan, head of the Territorial Department ESBU in Odesa region.
