The Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine hosted a meeting between the ESBU leadership and representatives of the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM).

Acting ESBU Director Mr. Serhii PERKHUN discussed with the Head of the EUBAM Mission Mr. Slawomir PICHOR the key areas of cooperation between the institutions, the results of work and plans for the future, including the concept of extending EUBAM's mandate until 2028.

Among the key points of the document under discussion, special attention was paid to the importance of ensuring stability on the borders between Ukraine and Moldova, and combating new challenges, including organized crime, smuggling, and illegal trade. At the meeting it also discussed the use of modern information systems to improve the efficiency of border control.

At the end of the meeting, the participants agreed to expand cooperation in combating against transnational crime, joint training activities, and monitoring of the situation at the borders.

Reminder: Last year, the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine signed a Memorandum of understanding on joint actions and cooperation with the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM).

The EUBAM Mission started its work in 2005. It has representative offices in Odesa (Ukraine) and Chisinau (Moldova) and six field offices: three on the Moldovan side of the common border and three on the Ukrainian side.

EUBAM is working with Moldova and Ukraine to bring border management, customs and trade standards and procedures in line with the EU member states.
