Analysts of the Territorial Department of the Economic Security Bureau in Odesa region prevented the unlawful refund of UAH 57 million of value added tax from the state budget.
In the course of information and analytical activities the specialists of the ESBU found that two companies selling clothing and footwear at the 7km industrial market purchased a large volume of goods from importers.
Subsequently the entrepreneurs filed tax returns for two months and declared UAH 57 million in VAT refunds from the budget for allegedly unsold balances. However the company did not document the product balances in its warehouses.
The Bureau's analysts established that no actual purchase and sale of goods took place and sent letters of recommendation to the State Tax Service in Odesa region to conduct unscheduled on-site inspections of the companies.
The inspections confirmed the conclusions of the Bureau's analysts and the relevant acts were drawn up. Thus the unjustified refund of UAH 57 million of VAT was prevented.
