Andrii Pashchuk, the Acting Director of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine and representatives of the ESBU joined the International Symposium on combating illegal cigarette production. The event was held in Chisinau. The main initiator of the event was the EU border assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine.
The participants discussed the prevention and suppression of tobacco trafficking crimes, detection and seizure of illegally imported tobacco manufacturing equipment and the specifics of their distribution.
The participants also discussed mechanisms for countering multinational supply chains used by organized criminal groups to transport cigarettes and the specifics of practical cooperation in this area.
"I am convinced that joining the efforts of representatives of international organizations, business and government authorities from different countries is a significant contribution to combating the shadow cigarette market," said Andrii Pashchuk, Head of the Bureau.
The event was also attended by the Head of the EU border assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine, Slavomir Pihor, representatives of the Information and Security Service of the Republic of Moldova, the Inspector General and Police of the Republic of Moldova, the National Revenue Administration of Poland and business representatives.
